Faking it

I was reading Casey's blog where she is making a room which will not be seen only through a door, and I thought I would show you my own attempt. If you have not been to Casey's site, you should go there after you have read this, it well worth a daily visit.

On my second floor I have two bedroom and a hall area in the middle, The stairs run up the centre of my house and I wanted to break the straight lines. I decided I would use the top hall as extra room space. I finished the stairs on the floor below and I think cleverly created the image of a second set of stairs in the back half of the house, if you want to read more pop here

I left the walls for the back hall white photo above, , it plain, I had a great table I wanted to use, photo below, I put the lamp in to show the area, I do leave the wash room door open so you can see the hall area, on the floor I put a carpet brought when last in Turkey, I may stitch a rug for here but no one will see it.

Both these tables are hand made, the one above is beautiful, but I have no where in my house for it, I brought it for the hall, but then fell in love with another. the table below is in my washroom, Fliss passed this one on to me, I like it because it looks used and a bit rough on the edges, everything of value would have been on show in the downstairs area where they could be seen.

To create the washroom, I made a wall using mountboard and put in a door, the flooring is the same as in the bedrooms, I do like to leave this door open. I like this smaller room, before it was to deep, now it looks as if the house is much bigger. I am a big fan of faking things to enhance the house and use tricks all through. The wallpaper I downloaded from the net, it is correct for the time of the house.

Once every thing is placed the room looks good, the table at the back matches the items in the bedrooms and was made by a local craftsman who sadly is no longer here. The bath is wrong for the period, but one day I will find a hip bath I like, until then this claw foot will do.

Birds

Today is another sunny day and I have been working in our garden, you can follow that tale on my second blog here. Now I am back inside I went looking for signs of spring in my mini world.

The small boat is found near my beach house, and there are always seagulls around, I often see them on the boat, we have a couple of resident ducks, they move around alot, but these two are always together.

Under the eves on the beach hut there is a nest. there was nothing at my bird feeder today, you can see it at the back of this picture, it hangs on the other side of the beach house.

In the back yard of my kitchen there are a couple or Robins, one is on the fence and the other is by the nest in the old boot. I think I should spend time here cleaning up the yard, all the flowers are dead!

Making Plans

I have had my operation and have spent the week at home, I have limited use of my left arm, so I have not done very much, watched all your blogs and surfed the net. I have found another rug to stitch, I love the pattern and of course it's green my favorite colour.

I have started planning for my Attic space of the house. In my first ever blog, I showed how the house was to look if I followed the plans, the roof space would not be used, but my plan was always to dispose of their roofing and create my own. I love everything Georgian and this week I have been on Google looking at roof tops, plus reading all the books I have. I want to create something like the house below.

With three attic windows, and two chimneys at the back. I have already got items for the maids room, and I want some space to be for attic with broken furniture and other things stored there, I even have my spiders ready to live up there. The third room I think should be for children, I don't want a school room so I am thinking of a day bed and a cot, but I am reserving my decision until I know what space I will have. I also want to check out how the rafters would have looked from the inside.

Spring time

With spring in the air, I thought it was time to place my spring plants, I have brought each at local shows, Its the big show at Lyndhurst next weekend, and I won't be able to get there.
So I am saving my pocket money for later in the year.

I will pop to Hobby craft later in the week, I have to make Joshua a pair of black trousers with a red stripe up each leg, he is going to a show in Southampton, and wants to go as
Murray Wiggle.
You should search out the Wiggles, they are great fun.

Hot Planting

I am still not doing much to Somerset House
As you can see, I am not able to get to the front door at the moment. we have just had all new blinds put into our windows and I have had to remove the cati from my window sill.
I love cati and have loads, in our old house I had a porch full of them, here I have to find a place for them to live.

Fliss has just ordered another smaller house, she has stored her big house for now, so hopefully when that arrives I will work with her and then start to enjoy my house again.

We have been so busy on the bungalow, and will have the builders back for a couple of days next week, Kev is busy sorting things ready for their arrival.

I have just finished making Su's wedding cards, and soon we will be shopping for her wedding dress material, we already have a pattern.

I have a few health issues, and with so many things happening my mini world is at a stand still. But we did hear some good news another baby to come in our family.
