Bright Idea's

 Fliss and I spent time together on Sunday

As always we had a long look at the house, Fliss is very good for idea's, in my sitting room I have had a rug made from woven material, I have never seen a pattern or a ready made rug for in here. Fliss took the large table cloth shown in my last blog and laid it on the floor, and now you see my new rug. It looks great, I am thinking about putting a coloured lining to give it depth.

My stash from the local show is poor, two reason's, my house has most of what I need, it will be never finished, secondly there were only 23 sellers at the show, and most were small and loads of hand made items. We did not have one big seller there, and only had three tables of which I loved the standard.  It's a vicious circle we have, poor attendance stops the good sellers going to the smaller loacl shows, and then poor displays stop people going.

Sitting Room

Today I wanted to show you around my sitting room in detail, I am very please with the results.
The floor is herringbone wooden tiles as in the Hall, Ball and dining rooms, which I hand laid myself onto light card. The chandelier I got from e-bay, but they are common enough. The mirror I made by cutting 2 window frames and placing the decorative bits together and then stuck them to a mirror card. The paper on the ceiling is gift wrap paper which I have painted white. The fire place is in the style of Adams a famous designer of the time, the fire does light up.

Things to finish here, I want a better fire fender, and a companion set. I would like to stitch a rug, but I'm working on something big and non-mini at this point.

The furniture below has a second chair but I did not want to clutter the picture, it's a Bespaq and made beautifully, I fell in love with it, it was brought on e-bay, I do watch e-bay but I'm very careful so often what you buy is not the quality it seams, and in reality it's best to shop where you can touch the item and get a feel for it.

This table is my super find, I brought it second hand from my favorite dolls house shop, we are lucky we have three shops with in driving distance, but my favorite is here
The top is a tray, which could be used by the butler for serving tea, I love the wood on the top and the edging, both so perfect, unfortnatly I do not know who made this, it was part of a house sale.I have also added the tea set, this is a cheap set, and who knows one day I might get better.

I hope you enjoyed my visit, We have sold our big house last week and I'm spending time house hunting, so mini's will be on the back burner.

1st Floor

We are now on the first floor, this is the area of the house where the lady of the house has more influence in the decoration, above is the dining room, very formal, and loads of space to show their wealth, the cabinets hold silver and glass items. The dining table, chairs and main cabinet are from the Glen Owen range. In the forefront is a wine cooler with bottle of wine and ice a very modern item. Many dining rooms had a screen in the corner with a pot for people to relieve themselves whilst eating, but I have decided I do not need to be that correct. The mat I have sewn myself. I have a few items I really love in this room the Tantalus and the Cranberry glass are featured in a previous blog, tiny delights.

The sitting room below has been created around the bespaqe suit of furniture, I love the half wallpaper. I have not sewn a rug for this room, I have not seen one I like, I think I am going to have to create a design myself, I will want a square design, whilst most are oblong and to small for my requirements. The mirror I made the same way as in the ball room, I just cut it smaller. I love my work box with the cotton reels and scissors. I also love the butlers table in the front, it is a table with a tray on the top, the butler would bring the tea items into the room and place on the table and use the tray top to serve everyone. I brought this second hand from a local shop, it was still expensive, but I love the style of it. I also love the bird cage this was brought from the Glenn Owen range.


The lighting on this level are all candles, and on a daily basis only a couple would be lit. I still have a few items in mind for these rooms, as we always say nothing is ever finished. The papered ceilings in both room, has be created from a textured wrapping paper, I painted it white and the glued it to the ceilings.
